When the weather turns hot and humid in summer, you need to take better care of your health. The heat can make you irritable and uncomfortable and you will do well to find ways to remain cool.

You need to drink a lot of water, to make up for the loss of liquid from the body when you sweat, as you will a little more, especially when you are working out or out in the sun. Always keep a bottle of water handy, as this will help to keep your body adequately hydrated. Summertime is when you automatically spend more time outdoors, with the children, with your pet, or with the family going out to the beach. During this time, try to keep out of direct sunlight, as this can dehydrate you and also be bad for your skin. Use sunblock to keep your skin in good shape, and protect your eyes with sunglasses. Make sure the clothes you wear in the summer are loose and light and allow for ventilation, as tight fitting clothes can cause skin irritation with the heat and sweat.

You must eat to suit the weather if you want to maintain good health in summer. Eat food that is light on your stomach and not difficult to digest. It can always help if you eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, though it is best keep away from artificial fruit juices that contain additives and also avoid colas and sodas that contain a lot of sugar and empty calories. Resist the temptation to drink them and always prefer water to slake your thirst. Your skin can also benefit, if you use the least amount of makeup, as this can clog the pores of your skin and allow bacteria to flourish in them. It is best if you can avoid makeup altogether.

Do not avoid working out because of the heat, as a lack of exercise is almost an invitation to poor health. Reduce working out if you want to, but make sure that you exercise for at least half an hour every day and keep those muscles in trim. These workouts will also keep your muscles loose, and allow you to participate in sports and games, which many people do indulge in when they are out in the open in summer at the beach, in the yard or parks. Jogging is a good exercise for summer, and going for walks in the cool of the evening can turn into good exercise and may even make you more social, when you meet a lot of friends and acquaintances on these evening walks.

Summer is also a time for holidays and rest, and it can do no harm to your body if you ensure that your body gets a lot of rest, even if you take naps during the day. Rest is as important for the body and health, as is the right diet and adequate exercise. Take full advantage of summer days to spend a lot of time outdoors, as this is definitely better that you breathe air from natural surroundings.
