Itching, swelling and redness are all skin allergy symptoms. With or without treatment, they usually go away on their own in a week or two, but while active they tend to be a cause of much distress and annoyance.

We’ve put together a list of natural ways to deal with your skin rashes and provided some helpful advice to aid you with the same.

What natural aids should I use?

Here’s the list of our favorite and most effective aids to help with healing your skin rash:

  1. Apple cider vinegar

For starters, apple cider vinegar is an effective anti-fungal, antiseptic and anti-bacterial agent that relieves itching. If your itching is associated with dry skin – for example: dandruff and sunburns, apple cider vinegar is the way to go!

This natural remedy is also incredibly easy to use – put a few drops of vinegar onto a cotton ball and dab it on to the affected area. It’s advised you use organic, unfiltered, raw cider vinegar.

  1. Peppermint leaves

Peppermint provides a cooling sensation which is why it’s great for bug bites and itching. It will bring you the much needed relief!

The best, easiest and quickest way to use peppermint leaves for your itching problem is to crush up the leaves and rub the peppermint directly onto the skin. If you want to enhance the cooling effect, you can freeze the crushed peppermint leaves into ice cubes for and the ice cubes will help numb the affected area and bring down swelling and inflammation.

  1. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is wonderful for just about every kind of skin irritation. Aloe is extremely versatile and apart from its ability to heal sunburns, it’s also known to sooth the skin and relieve swelling and irritation.

“Break off a leaf from the plant, and cut it open lengthwise from top to bottom with a knife. Scoop out the gooey gel inside, and rub it directly onto irritated skin”, advices Judy Thomson from “Nature & You” cosmetics company. In case you have some extra left, be free to keep it refrigerated in an airtight container for up to a week.

  1. Fruit Peels

Banana peel is ridiculously effective in dealing with bug bites. All it takes is to rub the peel onto the hurt area and it’ll do wonders. You can also use watermelon rind.

Unfortunately, the downside to this method is that the fruity scent may attract bugs. So, it’s better if you opted for this healing choice while indoors.

  1. Oatmeal

Oatmeal usage reduces inflammation, as it contains compounds called avenanthramides. It’s a trick that’s been around for a really long time. It’s also commonly used for poison ivy and eczema. The way to use it is to make poultice or add oatmeal to your bath.

Add some water to a cup or bowl of uncooked, organic oatmeal and let it sit for a few minutes. After it reaches a paste-like consistency, just pply the paste to the itchy area as needed.

What other advice would you give?

Advice to follow when you’ve got rash problems is pretty important as they can be of much help when dealing with irritable skin.

Here’s what we suggest:

  1. Avoid contact

Whatever it’s triggering your allergy you must stop touching or using it.

  1. Shower with cold water

A cool shower or a cool compress can help calm a fiery rash. When drying your skin, do it gently (dab the towel onto the skin with light movements). You may moisturize also.

  1. Be careful about what you wear

When you’ve got rashes, wearing tight clothes is one of your biggest enemies. These types of clothes can irritate your rash even further and cause redness and further irritation. Wear loose clothes until the rash goes down.

Wear clothes made of natural fibers. Cotton, kenaf, jute, sisal, linen, colorful bamboo socks, Ts, dresses and shorts should be your primary option until the rash goes down (and after if possible!).

If your skin is experiencing severe symptoms, try a damp dressing. Soak a long-sleeve cotton T-shirt or long underwear in water, then wring it out and put it on. It should help.

If your rashes don’t go down in the course of a few weeks or you notice some dramatic changes on your skin early on, it’s best you consulted a dermatologist about your condition.
